Some wedding venues feel beautiful.
Others feel memorable.
But every so often you walk into a venue that feels like it belongs on a film set! and De Vere Horsley Estate is exactly that.
After visiting the venue and spending time with Georgia, the wedding and events manager, it’s easy to see why so many couples fall in love with it. From secret chapels to grand historic halls, it’s a venue that blends history, atmosphere, and incredible spaces for celebrations.
It’s the kind of place where every corner feels like a moment waiting to happen.
A Historic Mansion With Exclusive Use
When couples book their wedding at De Vere Horsley Estate, they receive exclusive hire of the Towers Mansion House, giving them the feeling of hosting their wedding in their own private historic estate.
The venue was originally designed for the Lovelace family and built in 1820 by Sir Charles Barry—the architect behind the Houses of Parliament and Highclere Castle.
With 28 bedrooms within the mansion house, plus additional accommodation available across the estate, guests can stay overnight and continue the celebrations into the next day.
Wedding packages with exclusive use hire range between £2,500 and £9,000 for the venue, depending on the scale of the wedding and chosen options. Catering and drinks packages starting from £147.00 per person.
The bridal and grooms’ dressing rooms are included and can even be split into two spaces — perfect for couples who want separate preparation rooms in the morning.
Allowing a quieter space for some of the party to get ready, whilst others get their hair done.
The Great Hall – Our Personal Favourite
The moment you step into the Great Hall, it’s hard not to pause for a second.
This space genuinely feels like something from another era! Medieval character, towering architecture, and even a real working organ. It has a magical atmosphere that instantly reminded us of something straight out of Harry Potter.
The room works beautifully for:
- 120 guests for a ceremony
- 110 guests for seated round table dining
- 80 guests banquet style (Our personal favourite)
It’s grand without feeling overwhelming, and the lighting and historic details create an incredible backdrop for photographs and celebrations.
This is also a space where both our Vintage Booth and Magic Mirror Photo Booth work beautifully, blending naturally into the historic surroundings without feeling intrusive.
The 1820 Room – Perfect for Intimate Weddings and evening parties!
For couples planning something a little more intimate, the 1820 Room offers a stunning alternative.
It comfortably accommodates:
- 40 guests seated for round table dining
- 30 guests banquet style
- Up to 50 guests for ceremonies
The space feels elegant and private — ideal for smaller celebrations where couples still want the grandeur of a historic estate but with a more personal atmosphere.
It’s also a perfect spot for a photo booth experience, where guests can enjoy capturing moments without leaving the main celebration.
This section is split into 3 separate rooms including the 1820 room, a central lounge and a stunning bar area, all connected, making it the perfect space for an evening reception too, with guests being able to stay in the same space for the bar and party.
Shoot Me Photobooths have previously supplied photo booths into the central lounge, providing a great way to keep guests moving throughout the venue and keeping the celebration going.
The Sopwith Room – For Larger Celebrations
The Sopwith Room is the largest space on the estate and offers a more contemporary feel while still complementing the historic setting.
Capacity includes:
- Up to 120 guests for round table dining
- Up to 76 banquet style
It provides plenty of room for larger weddings, dancing, and evening celebrations. This is the only function room that has direct doors out to the Mansion House Terrace.
A Hidden Chapel & Beautiful Grounds
One of the most charming parts of the estate is the ornate hidden chapel tucked away within the grounds.
It’s a space that feels incredibly special. Almost like discovering a secret within the venue itself.
Outside, the gardens open up around the fountain area, which immediately caught our attention.
Georgia from the venue team mentioned she has always wanted to see a wedding ceremony held outside by the fountain, and we have to agree! it would create a truly breathtaking setting with the lake as the backdrop. There are some other beautiful outdoor ceremony options.
A Venue With Real Character
De Vere Horsley Estate has also played host to several TV shows and films, including:
- The Crown
- Alice Through the Looking Glass
- Suffragette
When you walk around the estate, it’s easy to see why filmmakers love it! The architecture, gardens, and interiors all feel cinematic.
Thoughtful Details Couples Love
One detail we really liked hearing from Georgia was how flexible the team are with wedding planning.
For example, drinks packages can be customised; not every couple wants the standard prosecco reception, and the team are happy to tailor options to suit the style of the celebration.
That flexibility makes a big difference when couples want their wedding to feel truly personal.
A Perfect Setting for Unforgettable Guest Moments
What stood out most during our visit was how naturally this venue lends itself to creating moments for guests.
The grand spaces, hidden rooms, and beautiful gardens all invite people to explore and enjoy the celebration in different ways.
It’s exactly the kind of venue where our photo booths and relaxed portrait moments become part of the evening rather than just an add-on.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a venue that combines historic architecture, incredible spaces, and exclusive-use privacy, De Vere Horsley Estate is a truly special option.
It’s elegant without feeling formal, grand without feeling overwhelming, and filled with little details that make a wedding feel unforgettable.
And if Georgia ever does get that fountain ceremony to happen, we have no doubt it will be absolutely spectacular.
